Does your partner like the mountains or love the beach? Luscious tropical greenery or a private getaway where it can be just the two of you? If you are looking to plan the perfect proposal then you will want to make sure you get these questions right!
We have been travelling for over 3 years now and have been to some incredibly dreamy, secluded, bustling and beautiful places. There have been countless times we have both thought "this would be the perfect place for a special marriage proposal". If you are looking for the ideal place to pop the big question, but also want to try and hide your special moment within a stunning getaway, then we have put together 5 amazing proposal ideas for you. To top it all off you also need THE ring. For each location we have chosen a unique engagement ring to partner alongside it which represents the different style of proposals, and the beautiful relationship you have together.
Your unsuspecting future spouse is going to remember forever how you managed to find the perfect ring, proposal spot and packaged it all together in one epic trip!
If you are looking for a special place that is perfect for a beach proposal, then we recommend a trip to Palawan in The Philippines. What better way to declare your undying love for your significant other than on a beautiful tropical white sand beach in paradise. You can also easily disguise your intentions with an amazing trip to the Philippines!
With so many beaches and islands to choose from it can be difficult to narrow things down, but here are two great options. If you stay in El Nido then you can book a romantic private tour around some of the stunning tropical islands nearby. The perfect spot to pop the question would be Entalula Island. It's got clear blue ocean water to swim in, towering limestone cliffs and soft white sand. If you were to get here earlier or later in the day then you would have a really great shot at having the whole beach and island to yourself. It would be a very memorable moment for both of you for the rest of your lives.
Alternatively, if you want to spend the night on an island paradise then you should book a stay on Darocotan Island. You can live your castaway dreams and stay in a luxurious beach bungalow. It's got the same luscious greenery, crystal clear blue water and soft white sand. Being able to stay here means you get the benefit of planning a sunset proposal, and some candy floss skies mixed in makes the perfect backdrop for pronouncing your love.
For weather specifically, the best time of year to visit Palawan is from December to April. This is also the most popular time to visit, so if you want to have the perfect proposal spot all to yourself you could struggle during the peak months. You will also have to make sure you book your accommodation well in advance during this time too. The months with the highest rainfall in Palawan are usually September and October, so you could look at more of the "shoulder season" which would be November or June. These months are just before and after The Dry season. There is always going to be a risk of rain, but it is less crowded and if you're feeling lucky, and the weather gods are on your side, then it will make a more romantic setting.
Moissanite is a unique gemstone that, like your love, is out of this world. This simple and elegant ring will be the perfect partner to accompany your vacation proposal.
If mountain views and stunning green nature are more your thing then you can find exactly what you are looking for in North Bali. Your partner will love visiting The Island of the Gods, and you can spend a few weeks seeing everything that Bali has to offer. Little do they know, you have already booked one of the most romantic places to stay in Bali and have planned an intimate setting with the love of your life.
Munduk Moding Plantation is a popular spot with spectacular views of the mountains. You can book one of their private villas which includes an infinity pool stretching out into the mountains. Because it is your villa you have all the privacy in the world and can create your own perfect setting for an unforgettable proposal. The room also comes with a private butler that you can message through WhatsApp, and I have no doubt that they will be eager to help you create something special.
The mountains of North Bali are subject to more rainfall than other parts, so you definitely want to visit during The Dry season. The Wet season can also get quite cold with the altitude. The amazing news is that it is a lesser visited part of Bali, so even during the peak season it will still be fairly busy, but significantly quieter than other places like Canggu or Ubud. Between May and October are the driest months, with June to August being the busiest months.
This vintage floral ring goes perfectly with the amazing views and natural wonders all around Munduk Moding.
For the adventurous couples out there it is time to take a trip to Thailand. Khao Sok National Park is like jumping in a time machine and taking a trip back to an ancient past. It's a huge freshwater lake packed full of tall islands poking up from out of the water. A short boat trip exploring these beautiful islands will show you that they are packed with life. Not only can you see all the lush greenery, but make sure to keep your eyes and ears open in case any of the local elephants come through the thick jungle towards the water... or even the tigers! (You would have to be VERY lucky to spot a tiger. No one has seen them in decades because they live so deep in the thick dense jungle).
This nature paradise is another of our great places for a romantic proposal. You can book a few nights in a floating bungalow in between exploring parts of the North and South of Thailand. Your partner will love being able to wake up, open the bedroom door and dive right into the incredible waters. Your proposal trip will be the stuff of legend! Just make sure you don't accidentally drop the ring in the lake.
The beauty of living in a floating bungalow on a lake means it really doesn't matter what the weather is like. There is something quite freeing about going swimming when it is raining and having your own "main character" moment. That being said, if you do want the perfect weather then between December and April is your best bet. When we visited Khao Sok it rained quite a lot, but it only added to its charm. We jumped, swam and still had the best time.
A unique spot like this deserves a unique ring, and this beautiful moissanite ring in gold is the one.
We're not quite done with the beaches yet, and this spot is home to a world renowned one at that. If you are looking for a proposal experience like no other then you need to visit one of the best destinations in the world. Quite literally, Whitehaven Beach on Whitsundays Island has been voted THE best beach in the world time and time again. You can't book a stay here, but you can definitely do a private trip. This part of Australia is packed with natural beauty, and it is one of the most popular locations in the country for a reason.
Charter this private yacht for 3 nights from Airlie Beach and spend your days exploring the most beautiful beaches, islands and making memories that will last a lifetime. If you don't want to spend a few days on a boat then we have another great option. You can book a helicopter ride and get down on one knee just as you fly over the iconic heart-shaped island.
For the best time to visit The Whitsundays you do need to consider just how popular this place is. East Coast Australia is the most popular part of Australia for tourists to visit, and this is one of the most popular parts of the East Coast. September to November is the best weather, which is Australia's Spring. It's not too hot, and it is typically sunny with light wind. There is also whale-watching season, so if your soon-to-be significant other is an animal lover then you will want to plan your trip around that. Your best chance of seeing whales in this region is from June to September.
A white gold ring for Whitehaven beach - it is a match made in heaven.
If your vibe is less castaway beaches and secluded mountain views then maybe a city break is what you need? Singapore is a beautiful and aesthetic city full of great spots to mark your special moment in a memorable way. You could secure a seat during sunset at Ce La Vi, the iconic restaurant and bar at the top of Marina Bay Sands. Or go for a walk around the Botanical Gardens and ask them along the sky walk or right after the stunning light show at night. The city skyline lit up at night would make the perfect backdrop and a great way to say those 4 famous words.
Booking a night at Marina Bay Sands is the best way to mark a momentous occasion. If you managed to secure a place here then you can rest assured that your posts on social media afterwards would be EPIC.
Singapore is HOT! It's pretty much right on the equator, so it really does get toasty in The Wet season, to put it lightly. "Winter" is the best time to visit, which is December to February and when the city is at its coolest. In the build up to Christmas and New Year the city is beautifully decorated, and alive with the buzz of the Holiday Season. You can get some heavy rainfall in December, but it's typically very heavy and then over quickly, so as long as you can find shelter you will be okay. February and March are still cool, with a lot less rain and March is when the cherry blossoms come out, which makes it a really beautiful time to visit too.
This classic and elegant style would go perfectly with your city getaway.
You've planned everything, found the perfect ring, location and know exactly what you are going to say. You've done so well, don't mess it up now! Here are some great ideas to make your special moment even more special, and what you really need to avoid.
DON'T
Put it in her drink or a piece of cake - Leave the cliches for the movies.
Pretend to drop the ring - Especially around water!
"Wing it" - Put a lot of thought into it to make it a really special moment.
DO
Be authentic - It will mean so much more to your partner.
Something crazy! - Would your diving obsessed partner appreciate an underwater proposal?
Have a plan B - Even the most perfect plans can go awry, always have a back-up... and even a back-up for your back-up!
You've spent all that time and effort to put together the proposal of a lifetime. You have even picked out the perfect ring to mark the occasion... but now you are nervous about carrying said ring around the world on flights, ferries, taxis and while walking around. Here are a few tips that will put those nerves at ease, and make sure your future spouse doesn't find your ring too early.
Keep it in YOUR OWN hand luggage - Do not pack it in with your checked luggage, keep it tucked away in your own bag.
Consider insurance - You can get insured for loss, theft or damage on your trip
Research whether your destination of choice requires you to declare the ring when you arrive - Keep a proof of purchase and try to let them know about it discreetly. No one wants to ruin your surprise.
Get it out of the way early - Not to be done with it all, but the less time you need to carry the ring around, and keep things secret, the less likely something will go wrong. If you propose early on the trip then the rest of it will be like an early honeymoon.
Pack a cleaning cloth - Keep the ring looking nice and shiny to give that extra WOW factor.
Keep cool - If she reaches for your bag then don't panic and clutch it tightly, trust yourself. If you've packed it properly (in a sock or a bathroom bag) then she is unlikely to find it.
Now you have everything in your disposal to plan the perfect proposal trip. Make it a love story that you will tell your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It doesn't have to be the proposal of the century, but something meaningful, something that matters to the both of you, and something that will forever be a beautiful memory to look back on. And most important of all is to savour it. Savour the moment that will forever be looked back on as the start of the rest of your life together.
